Nevada County has a number of great and diverse communities. We start with the two 49er Gold Rush era towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley. Both are towns that have been preserved from that era with all of the buildings restored from their 1800’s time of building. Many Victorian homes are in neighborhoods surrounding the downtown areas. Nevada City, the entire downtown, in on the National Historical Registry.
Outside of these two towns are the areas of larger parcels, 5 acres to over 100 acres that are both residential and ranch properties, including Horse Ranches and Cattle Ranches. Areas such as Penn Valley, Peardale, Chicago Park, McCourtny/South County. There are two Lake Communities with Golf Courses and large lakes; Lake Wildwood and Lake of the Pines. These are Gated Communities. Alta Sierra is also a Golf Course community without a lake and is not gated.
Nevada County has received many awards from national magazines. Time Magazine’s Top Ten Small Communities to live in nation wide. Outdoor Magazine has rated Nevada County in the Top Ten for River Towns (our beloved Yuba River) and Top Ten for outdoor recreation.
We are also nationally know as an arts center with many venues and galleries as well as many famous artists, poets, composers, musicians, writers and theater groups.
We are not only a destination to move to for Seniors coming from the San Francisco Bay Area but also for families who want a rural and cultured area with the top schools in the State for their children to thrive in.
